The neoclassical building, built in 1910, contains a display of Indian relics in the lobby. The upper stories contain 4 murals painted by C.E. Rang of Chicago in 1912. There are also large oil paintings of Lydia Huntley Sigourney and Chief Keokuk and a stained glass dome.

Wednesday thru Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Group tours by appointment. The Historical Society houses a museum of Keokuk County artifacts and a genealogy department with cemetery records and obituaries. They also have photographs, quilts, books, maps, and antiques on display throughout the building.

Keota Community Schools are located in the southeast quadrant of the state of Iowa in Keokuk County. The district is approximately 40 miles southwest of Iowa City, between Sigourney and Washington. Keota Community Schools are part of Great Prairie AEA with centers in Ottumwa & Burlington. See Keota on a map.

The present campus was started in 1960 with the construction of the elementary building, cafeteria and gymnasium. In 1972 the high school building was added to the north. The two buildings were connected and enhanced with the 2000 construction of an ICN room, second gym, elementary media center and classrooms.

The Keota Fire Department serves the city of Keota, Iowa, the eastern side of Keokuk county and the western side of Washington County. The department currently has 22 volunteer members. Fire Trucks and equipment are housed in the combination fire station and Keota City Hall.
